The University of the Philippines
The University of the Philippines (UP) is the country’s National University. As a premier institution of higher learning, it was established in 1908 and is now a university system with eight constituent universities, among them, the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) located on a sprawling university town and bounded on the south by a tropical mountain and a lake on the north.
The tropical mountain known as Makiling is an ASEAN Heritage Park and managed by the University where pioneering research is undertaken. UPLB is a premiere academic and research institution in agriculture, food, animal, dairy sciences, plant breeding, among many other disciplines of higher learning. UPLB’s forebears generated countless breakthroughs in research and established trailblazing leadership in agriculture, veterinary medicine, and forestry education in the country and in Southeast Asia. Its pioneering programs in these fields have been the models and norms of colleges and universities offering the same programs nationwide. In addition, more recent programs have, likewise, become models for universities in the Philippines and in the Southeast Asian region.
These are in the fields of engineering, environmental science, development communication, economics and management, policy and governance, human ecology, information and communication technology, human and environmental management, and basic sciences. Our research and extension agenda envision UPLB as an agora or marketplace of pioneering and demand-driven research and extension for development and innovation – through systems thinking, solutions-making, and future-proof paradigms. UPLB AGORA is our unified research and extension that stands for Accelerating Growth for One Research and Extension in Action. It has four focus areas on food security and sovereignty, one health, resilience and sustainability, and future communities and institutions. Visit our website agora.uplb.edu.ph to learn more!
MOOPOPS
Creator of reusable silicone tops designed to keep your fridge family fresh!
Here at MOOPOPS we’ve been getting our milk delivered for years. There are so many reasons why we love it.
There’s something very satisfying about pouring your milk or juice from a glass bottle and let’s face it, the milk bottle is a classic, it reminds us all of years gone by. It’s great to be able to open the front door in the morning and know your fresh milk will be there waiting for you. It’s also an easy way to support local business and the dairy industry directly.
More importantly, we’re trying to use less plastic. Milk bottles are used between 20 – 50 times each before they get recycled, compared to the plastic bottle’s once, most of which still go in landfill. The only negative in the milk bottle story is those goddamn foil tops. It used to drive us mad trying to constantly balance the crumpled foil on top of the bottle, they certainly don’t keep the milk fresh, once you’ve opened your bottle they’re pretty pointless. So we came up with the idea of a reusable silicone top.
Our milk bottle tops have been a game changer but we wanted to do more. The goal with our Pot Tops is to try and help the big brands slow the production of single use plastic flooding the market every day. We realise we’re stuck with some of the plastic we use in our lives but there’s a lot we don’t need. We hope that by giving customers a reusable, more conscientious options, it will help make it possible for supermarkets and the big brands to make the decision to #ditchthelid on yoghurt and cream pots.
If we all take small steps we can make big changes!

Heart and Soul
Asli was born and raised in Istanbul. After studying Gastronomy she worked in some of the best and famous kitchens in the UK including Gordon Ramsay and The Lanesborough Hotel. In 2012 she launched her own catering company with the goal of bringing love and happiness to everyone’s home with her goodies.
Adem worked as an advanced personal trainer for over 10 years at the UK’s best LA Fitness Club in South Kensington. He helped many people to achieve their health and fitness goals.
We were always a fan of peanut butter, but were tired of dry and tasteless products in the market. Some thought they should not add anything to peanut butter in order to be healthy and some thought they should add something to taste good but found only cheap ingredients in the order cost less.
On May 2020 we have launched Heart and Soul Peanut Butters in our Greenwich home kitchen and since then we received 4 Great Taste Awards.
We believe in Sustainability in farming (agriculture), production and also human health. That is why when choosing our raw material, we are searching quality ingredients organic where possible, plant based and recyclable packaging. We are trying to have 0% food waste policy within our company.
Fair To Nature
With 1.2 million members, the RSPB is the UK’s largest nature conservation charity, consistently delivering successful conservation, forging powerful new partnerships with other organisations and inspiring others to stand up and give nature the home it deserves. The RSPB manages 224 nature reserves across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, covering 160,358 hectares. Along with farming activities on some of the nature reserves, the charity puts into practice what it preaches on its own 181 hectare arable farm in Cambridgeshire.
The Fair to Nature scheme helps the RSPB realise its aim to reverse the decline in farmland biodiversity in the UK. Our rigorous Standard promotes and supports long-term, sustainable farming practices to deliver net positive effects on biodiversity while also helping to members progress towards net zero carbon.
Fair to Nature farmers dedicate at least 10% of their farmed land (including areas difficult to farm productively) to managed habitats, which have been scientifically proven to reverse wildlife declines, habitats that are flower-rich, providing food for vital pollinators; seed-rich, providing food for farmland birds and small mammals; connecting habitats, such as hedgerows; wet features like ponds and scrapes, important for so many species.
Fair to Nature links nature-friendly farmers with like-minded food businesses who use the Fair to Nature label on their products and at point of sale to enable the shopper to make sustainable choices.

Vertical Future
Vertical Future is a vertical farming technology and research company, headquartered in Central London. Our technologies, insights, and data empower and enable people to grow produce in a more sustainable way, closer to the point of consumption.
In doing so, we want to make populations healthier, also reducing food-related inequalities. Our advanced hardware and software solutions can be found on several continents and we are constantly looking for new projects, challenges, and research opportunities. To deliver on this, we have a highly experienced team – divided across engineering, plant science, operations, and software engineering.
The Vertical Future story began with operations, with the building of a small vertical farm in Southeast London in 2016 and the formation of Minicrops, which grew and delivered fresh produce (6 days a week) to hundreds of restaurants and thousands of homes.
From these experiences, we’re positioned to be able to not only build new high-tech farms across the globe – but operate them or at a minimum, advise on how to operate them too.
Research is a growing area for our business. We have funded and non-funded research projects and collaborations – from seed treatment and breeding through to genetics and phytopharmaceuticals.
With passion, knowledge, and innovation at its core, we are committed to empowering people to produce high-quality, nutrient rich crops in the most optimal, efficient, and sustainable way. We wholeheartedly believe that through the power of technology and human ingenuity, we can tackle climate change, reduce inequalities, and improve population health, building a better future for all.
A Vertical Future is one where global crop production is no longer at threat, humans are healthier, and there is a better balance between population growth and the natural world.
Street Food Box
At Street Food Box® we believe it should be easy for everyone to enjoy fabulous street food and food to go without feeling guilty about adding another throw-away carton to our ever-growing waste mountain.
Our mantra – Eat, Rinse, Sleep, Repeat® – is simple for a reason, because the only real solution to reducing food to go packaging waste is reuse rather than recycling and through its ease of use, Street Food Box is revolutionising how we think about food to go packaging forever.
And right now, in the UK alone we dispose of a staggering 11 billion items of food to go items each year and the carbon footprint of each standard, cardboard food container is a whopping 250g! And because this packaging is plastic-coated it cannot be recycled and instead goes to landfill or incineration.
Fortunately, legislative moves are already underway to reduce this massive volume of packaging waste and by 2025 the disposable food boxes that we are so used to using just once will be no more.
But don’t wait until 2025. By using our innovative, striking, infinitely reusable food to go box, you can play your part NOW.
As Street Food Box is super-compact and convenient, folds flat when not in use and neatly slips into its durable, washable pouch before popping into a handbag, rucksack or even jeans or jacket pocket, you can carry one with you all the time and after use, just pop it into its waterproof pouch and wash once back home.
