The Sustainable Scale Up Cluster has been created with the ambition to upscale the sustainability of Welsh food and drink businesses. This fantastic organisation is supporting businesses by aiding them in tackling the four key challenges to successful scale-up:

1. The capacity to scale up
2. Access to sufficient capital to scale up
3. Access to the right competencies and talent to scale up
4. Having the confidence to scale up and avoid the overtrading trap

Joining us at the Sustainable Food London event, Food & Drink Whales Sustainability Cluster will be highlighting some of its best local sustainable brands and businesses, including:

Edwards – The Welsh Butcher
For the last 37 years, Edwards has been the UK’s favourite butcher winning awards such as “Britain’s Best Butcher”, “Best Butchers Shop in Wales” and a Good Housekeeping prize. Although they first started selling through ASDA, it didn’t take long for other major retailers to stock their incredible products. Leading them to expand their operations to meet the groining demand with a new production facility beneath Conwy Mountain.

Celtic Coast Fish Company
Craving fresh salmon, oysters, or scallops? The Celtic Coast Fish Company was born out of consumer demand for a high-quality fresh fish supplier that reflected the ever-evolving trends of fish restaurants. They support UK trade and industry in the British waters, bringing seafood caught off the shores of mainland Britain to your table.

Bluestone Brewing Co
The Bluestone Brewing Company was established in 2013 on a small working family farm in Pembrokeshire. This world-class brewery is extremely environmentally conscious; re-using biproducts from the brewing process on the farm, collecting spring water from their own well, and using solar power to generate electricity.

Llanllyr SOURCE
Llanllyr SOURCE produces the best guilt-free natural mixers and bottled water. Formed as a part of organic farm diversification, this environmentally conscious company has been carbon neutral since 2006 and was awarded The Queen’s Award in 2008 for excelling at sustainable development.

Still Wild
Still Wild is a micro-distillery in Pembrokeshire focusing on using locally foraged wild botanicals. Sustainability is a core part of the business, with land usage, waste, and carbon emissions all central to the business’s operations. The first product, Wales’s first Sweet Vermouth launched in December 2020. In 2021 it won two stars at the Great Taste Awards, later that year a Dry Vermouth and a Coastal Gin were launched.
