The Root Co
Bridging the taste gap between the almost sickly-sweetness of existing ginger beers and the zingy punch of a ginger shot – The Root Co is here to shake up the world of non-alcoholic ginger drinks.
The Root Co is overhauling the ‘normal’ way of doing things and instead believes in cold pressing all their organic ingredients, keeping their recipe simple, natural, and good for your gut. This amazing Ginger Beer is made from just five ingredients; ginger, lime, maple syrup, mint, and water, taking just 37 iterations to develop!
The Root Co also monitors their carbon footprint and consciously tries to reduce their impact on the planet too. They do this through ethical sourcing of their produce as well as various other initiatives, including packaging their products in aluminum cans. Which once produced, are the cleanest and easiest packaging to recycle, requiring 60 to 90 percent less energy than bottled recycling. This company also finds compelling uses for the by-product of their cold-press operations: a load of semi-dry, organic pulp matter called pomace. Once collected The Root Co delivers all pomace to Burrow Farm, which is near the manufacturing site, to help fuel their organic operation, Open Air Dairy.
Project Planet, another The Root Co initiative looks at offsetting the impact the company’s sourcing, manufacturing, and distribution has on the environment. Taking a longer-term approach to protecting the planet and supporting development in East Africa, planned in accordance with the following three phases:
(1) To align processes as closely as possible with B-Corp guidelines.
(2) To track and measure the footprint of their Ginger drinks with an accredited partner.
(3) To communicate with ingredient suppliers – specifically their Ginger Root farmers in Uganda – in hopes to better understand how they can best support their livelihoods and productivity.
