Sally Randall is Director General of Food, Biosecurity and Trade for Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
Sally has been in this role since August 2023 overseeing a broad portfolio of policy work including Agri Food, the Farming and Countryside Programme, Animal and Plant Health and Welfare and EU International Trade.
She joined Defra in 2019 as Director for Floods and Water and became the Director of Environmental Quality in 2021. She previously spent most of her career in what is now the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. She was Housing Director from 2015 to 2018 and Director for Land and Development from 2014 to 2015. Earlier in her career she had a range of roles spanning housing, communities and the built environment including homelessness, the private rented sector, housing growth, housing infrastructure and community-based regeneration projects.
